sitting numbly next to

those who once

swallowed me whole,

feasted like vultures on my soul,

then spit me out onto a

cold lonely road–


imagining my bones gathering back into wings, beating light

into the darkness of yesterday.


imagining i'm soaring back,

right into the mouths

of those who once

plucked the feathers
