the joy of being alone

i was told i'm the type of person

who needs to learn how to be alone.

mocked for craving a warm body to hide behind.

and at first i laughed too;

at how i yearned

for love like an answer

to a question i couldn’t stop asking:

when will another soul

fully consume mine?

yet i was alone before you,

and i felt even lonelier

when i only had some of you.

i can't forget you, not completely;

so i’ll learn to walk along

our mountain path without you,

scream at the sky unrestrained,

all in celebration of me warming up

my own lonely soul.
